Sharjah has one of the busiest second hand furniture trades in the UAE, and for good reason. It is where a large share of the country’s rental turnover happens, so furniture changes hands constantly. If you are trying to buy cheaply or sell quickly here, it helps to understand how the market is actually structured before you start calling people.
Where the Trade Happens
The heart of the trade is Sharjah Industrial Area 6. This is where the used furniture shops and warehouses cluster together, buying from house clearances across Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman, then refurbishing and reselling. If you have searched for a second hand furniture market in Sharjah, Industrial Area 6 is what you are looking for.
It is not a single building or a souk. It is a run of independent shops and warehouses along the same streets, which is exactly why it pays to walk a few doors down rather than taking the first price you are offered. Outside Industrial Area 6 there are smaller resale shops scattered through the residential districts like Al Nahda, Al Taawun, Al Qasimia and Muweilah, but the range and the volume are in Industrial 6.
These shops buy from house clearances and office moves, refurbish what needs it, and resell. Stock turns over fast, prices are negotiable, and almost everything is sold as seen.
Why Sharjah Moves So Much Furniture
Three things drive it. Rents are lower than Dubai, so a lot of people who work in Dubai live here and move more often. Many flats are let unfurnished, so every new tenant needs furniture and every departing tenant needs to shift it. And a significant part of the population is here on fixed contracts, which means regular departures from the country with a flat full of furniture to clear.
For a seller, that is good news and bad news. Demand is steady, but so is supply. Your sofa is competing with a lot of other sofas, which is why condition and timing matter more here than brand.
Buying: What to Check Before You Pay
Inspect everything yourself. Open every wardrobe door and drawer, sit on the sofa properly rather than perching on the edge, and plug in any appliance before money changes hands. Ask about bed bugs directly when buying upholstered furniture or mattresses – a reputable shop will not be offended by the question.
Measure your doorways and lift before you buy. Sharjah has a lot of older buildings with narrow stairwells and small lifts, and a wardrobe that will not go up is a wardrobe you have paid for and cannot use.
Settle the delivery cost as part of the negotiation, not afterwards. Delivery is where a cheap purchase stops being cheap.
Selling: The Part Most People Get Wrong
The instinct is to search for a second hand furniture shop and drive your items over. That instinct costs money.
Think about what happens. You hire a van, you pay two men to carry a bedroom set down from the fourth floor, you drive out to Industrial Area 6, and only then does anyone tell you what they will pay. At that point you have already spent money and you are standing in a warehouse with furniture you do not want to take home. You will accept less than you should, and the shop knows it.
The alternative is straightforward: get a quote from photos first, and only move the furniture once someone has committed to a price and is coming to collect it themselves.
What Sells Fastest in Sharjah
Bedroom sets and wardrobes move quickest, because they are what every incoming tenant needs. Fridges, washing machines and air conditioners are in constant demand. Sofas sell well when clean and structurally sound. Dining sets are slower unless the size suits a typical flat.
Complete sets beat individual pieces. A full bedroom sold as one lot will fetch more than the same items sold separately, and it saves everyone a second trip.
Timing Matters More Than You Think
Demand peaks around lease turnover and around the school year, when families relocate. The summer months bring the heaviest wave of departures from the country, which means more supply and more competition for the same buyers.
If your notice period has already started, do not wait until the final week. Sellers who plan two to three weeks ahead get better prices because they are not accepting the first offer out of panic.
Common Questions
Is second hand furniture cheaper in Sharjah than Dubai? Generally yes, both to buy and, unfortunately for sellers, to sell. Higher supply pushes prices down on both sides.
Can I sell furniture in Sharjah if I live in Dubai? You do not need to choose. Buyers who cover both emirates will quote on the same items either way.
Do shops collect from the flat? Some will, usually deducting the cost from the offer. Ask whether pickup is free before you agree to anything.
What about items nobody wants? Damaged pieces still have to leave the flat. Our guide on what to do with old furniture covers the sell, donate and dispose decision.
Is it the same in Dubai? Dubai’s version of this trade is the warehouse strip in Al Quoz. Our guide to used furniture shops in Al Quoz covers how it works there.
