A few hours of preparation can make a real difference to how much you’re offered for used furniture, and to how smoothly collection day goes. Here’s how to prepare furniture for sale in Dubai, step by step.
1. Decide what you’re selling
Walk through each room and sort everything into three groups: keeping, selling, and past selling. Remember that built-in wardrobes and fitted kitchen units usually belong to the landlord. Not sure what’s worth selling? Our guide to what used furniture sells best in Dubai helps, and what to do with old furniture covers the rest.
Not sure which pieces are past selling? Our guide to what furniture doesn’t sell in Dubai covers the common ones.
2. Clean every piece
Clean furniture photographs better and gets better offers. Vacuum sofas and chairs, including under the cushions. Wipe down wood, glass and metal. Spot-clean fabric marks with a gentle cleaner, testing it somewhere hidden first. Dust settles fast in Dubai, especially in villas, so clean shortly before you take photos.
3. Fix the small things
Tighten loose screws and handles, re-attach drawer runners and find missing shelf pins. Small fixes cost almost nothing and make furniture look looked-after. Don’t take on big repairs or refinishing just to sell, though. They rarely pay for themselves.
4. Find the brand and paperwork
Check under cushions, inside drawers and on the back of each piece for a brand label. If you still have the receipt or the product page, keep it handy. A known brand and a rough purchase date help a buyer give you a more accurate offer. Our pricing guide explains how value is worked out.
5. Take good photos
Photograph each piece in daylight with the curtains open. Take one full shot, one close-up of the surface, and one of any damage. Hiding damage only leads to a lower price on collection day. Move clutter out of the frame so the furniture is the focus.
6. Measure the big pieces
Note the length, width and height of sofas, tables, wardrobes and beds. Buyers use measurements to plan how a piece will come out of your home, and to judge what it’s worth. Our guides to selling a sofa, a dining table and a wardrobe cover what to measure for each.
7. Sort out building access
Many Dubai towers and communities ask for a move-out permit or a service lift booking before large furniture can leave. Check with your building management a few days ahead and share the time slot with your buyer. Villas are simpler, but make sure there’s space near the door for the truck.
When to start
If you’re moving, start two or three weeks before handover. That gives you time to compare offers instead of taking the first one in a rush. Our guides on the best time to sell and selling furniture fast cover timing in more detail.
