How to Sell a Used Wardrobe in Dubai

Wardrobes are one of the trickiest pieces to sell in Dubai. They’re tall, heavy and often have to come apart before they’ll fit through a door. Here’s what makes a wardrobe worth selling, and how to do it without wrestling it into a lift yourself.

First, check it’s actually yours to sell

Most Dubai apartments and many villas come with built-in wardrobes. Those belong to the landlord and stay with the property. Only freestanding wardrobes — the ones you bought and moved in — can be sold. If you’re not sure, check whether it’s fixed to the wall or ceiling. Built-in units usually are.

What affects the value

  • Material. Solid wood wardrobes hold their value best. Particle board and flat-pack units lose strength each time they’re taken apart and moved, so they’re worth less.
  • Size and doors. Two and three-door wardrobes fit most bedrooms and are the easiest to resell. Sliding-door wardrobes are popular in smaller Dubai bedrooms because they save space.
  • Condition. Doors that close properly, working hinges and runners, and an intact back panel matter more than a few surface scratches.
  • Matching pieces. A wardrobe that matches a bed, dresser or bedside tables is worth more as part of a bedroom set.

Sell it as part of a bedroom set

If your wardrobe matches the bed and side tables, sell them together. Buyers furnishing a bedroom would rather take a complete set, and you only arrange one collection. Our guide to selling a bed or bedroom set in Dubai covers the rest of the room.

Dismantling and moving

Large wardrobes often won’t fit through an apartment door or into a lift in one piece, so they usually need to be taken apart. Don’t start unscrewing yours before you’ve had an offer, though — flat-pack wardrobes in particular can weaken each time they’re dismantled. When you message us, say whether it’s already in pieces or still standing, and whether your building needs a service lift booking. Here’s how our pickup works.

How to photograph a wardrobe

Empty it first. Take one photo with the doors closed, one with them open to show the shelves and hanging rails, and a close-up of any brand label. Add the height, width and depth. That’s usually enough for an accurate offer. Our guide on how to prepare furniture for sale has more tips.

Moving out of Dubai?

If the wardrobe is one piece of a whole-flat clearance, it’s simpler to sell everything in one visit. Our checklist for leaving the UAE and end-of-tenancy guide cover the timing. Selling the dining room too? See how to sell a used dining table.
